Collections - Livestream Lessons

The Livestream Lessons collection is a section-level discovery map for the permanent teachings developed beneath the closing source panel of Bryant McGill's livestream workbooks. The [Livestreams Collection](https://bryantmcgill.org/collection-livestreams) opens the archive by broadcast; this collection opens it by lesson. Every linked title preserves the exact heading inside its workbook and travels directly to that section, while the accompanying date identifies the originating broadcast rather than the later work that developed the lesson. The lesson layer is cumulative. Blogs supplied the first developed deposits, but the architecture is not tied to one kind of publication; articles, photo journeys, journals, projects, and later works can all return material to the broadcasts from which it grew. Each lesson appears here once under its primary discovery category so the index remains complete, legible, and maintainable as the archive expands. ## American culture, citizenship, and national purpose These lessons develop America as an unfinished civic and technological project: citizenship as maintenance, constitutional continuity as the survivability of disagreement, national cohesion as distributed strength, institutional participation as stewardship, and the conversion of human, private, and public capability into a common future. - [National Cohesion Is Distributed Strength, Not Uniformity](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-becoming-conductors-of-goodwill-and-taking-turns-being-strong-workbook#National%20Cohesion%20Is%20Distributed%20Strength,%20Not%20Uniformity) _(Sep 29, 2018)_ — National cohesion is modeled as an orchestra in which differentiated parts share a score, carry the common work in phases, and create resilience without surrendering diversity. - [National Capability Requires a Bridge Between Power and Purpose](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-building-bridges-across-systems-of-power-workbook#National%20Capability%20Requires%20a%20Bridge%20Between%20Power%20and%20Purpose) _(May 28, 2016)_ — Bridge-building keeps institutional, industrial, and technological capacity moving across political divides so accumulated power can be directed toward dignity, abundance, and the stars. - [Trust Must Become a Managed Civic Resource](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-community-friendship-and-assuming-the-best-in-people-workbook#Trust%20Must%20Become%20a%20Managed%20Civic%20Resource) _(undated)_ — Good faith removes the cost of verification, while boundaries, pacing, records, and institutions preserve the trust supply when ambient reciprocation has thinned. - [Patriotism Requires Auditing the Story a Nation Tells Itself](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-cultural-conditioning-and-the-work-of-self-determination-workbook#Patriotism%20Requires%20Auditing%20the%20Story%20a%20Nation%20Tells%20Itself) _(Aug 13, 2016)_ — Mature citizenship holds the national ideal and the audit together, then returns criticism to stewardship because inherited systems remain alive through present maintainers. - [Human Capital Is the Sovereign Input to Institutional Continuity](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-democratic-dignity-and-the-power-of-human-capital-workbook#Human%20Capital%20Is%20the%20Sovereign%20Input%20to%20Institutional%20Continuity) _(Jan 19, 2016)_ — Institutions preserve memory across generations, while living citizens supply the judgment, signatures, labor, and consent that decide what those institutions will carry. - [Allegiance Can Be Shared Without Identity Becoming Uniform](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-dignity-hidden-greatness-and-putting-people-before-ideas-workbook#Allegiance%20Can%20Be%20Shared%20Without%20Identity%20Becoming%20Uniform) _(Sep 23, 2016)_ — A pluralistic nation keeps allegiance common and opinions revisable, allowing deep disagreement without turning every disputed idea into a test of who belongs. - [Citizenship Is the Maintenance Layer of an Unfinished Ideal](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-independence-gratitude-and-the-unfinished-american-experiment-workbook#Citizenship%20Is%20the%20Maintenance%20Layer%20of%20an%20Unfinished%20Ideal) _(Jul 4, 2017)_ — Constitutional form maintains the container, while citizens close the distance between national ideals and conduct through creation, service, criticism, gratitude, and stewardship. - [Respect Is an Interface With Institutional Power](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-open-minds-respectful-persuasion-and-institutional-power-workbook#Respect%20Is%20an%20Interface%20With%20Institutional%20Power) _(Dec 13, 2018)_ — Respect preserves the human channel through which evidence and correction move, allowing a citizen to enter institutional systems without surrendering judgment. - [Constitutional Continuity Makes Political Loss Survivable](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-responding-to-political-extremism-without-becoming-extreme-workbook#Constitutional%20Continuity%20Makes%20Political%20Loss%20Survivable) _(Nov 9, 2016)_ — Peaceful transfer converts power into temporary custody and keeps political loss from becoming an existential threat to membership in the republic. - [Public Trust Converts Private Enterprise Into National Capacity](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-the-power-of-social-identity-and-reciprocity-at-nasdaq-workbook#Public%20Trust%20Converts%20Private%20Enterprise%20Into%20National%20Capacity) _(May 25, 2016)_ — Truthful narrative, reciprocity, and institutional credibility convert private competence into public participation and national-scale capability. ## Agency, attention, and deliberate action These lessons concern the points at which a person can alter a life already in motion: choosing before certainty arrives, governing attention, maintaining a boundary, interrupting automatic policy, refusing reactive control, and turning repeated effort into usable feedback. - [Action Generates the Feedback That Uncertainty Withholds](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-acting-with-purpose-before-certainty-arrives-workbook#Action%20Generates%20the%20Feedback%20That%20Uncertainty%20Withholds) _(Feb 9, 2017)_ — A committed decision produces consequences and information that deliberation alone cannot supply; movement becomes an instrument for learning. - [Attention Is the Control Surface of a Life](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-attention-loops-and-the-patterns-that-shape-perception-workbook#Attention%20Is%20the%20Control%20Surface%20of%20a%20Life) _(Apr 7, 2016)_ — Attention selects what enters the mind, shapes expectation, and then confirms its own filter; a small intervention at the aperture can redirect an entire life. - [A Boundary Is Paid For Continuously](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-awareness-is-power-when-you-learn-to-hold-your-ground-workbook#A%20Boundary%20Is%20Paid%20For%20Continuously) _(Mar 14, 2016)_ — A boundary is treated as an actively maintained, selectively permeable surface whose continued existence consumes energy rather than a preference announced once. - [Dependency Is the Failure Mode of Help](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-community-agency-and-the-end-of-passive-self-help-workbook#Dependency%20Is%20the%20Failure%20Mode%20of%20Help) _(Mar 3, 2016)_ — Help that leaves someone needing more help has failed, and distrust of others runs upstream to distrust of oneself. - [Naming an Adversary Is the Precondition of Acting Against One](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-concentration-decision-and-the-recovery-of-agency-workbook#Naming%20an%20Adversary%20Is%20the%20Precondition%20of%20Acting%20Against%20One) _(Jul 26, 2016)_ — An unnamed adversary cannot be measured, bounded, or scheduled against, so the harm continues at full strength while the person experiencing it reaches for explanations located inside their own character. - [Low-Risk Perturbations Reveal High-Cost Defaults](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-constructing-genius-through-humility-and-the-courage-to-stand-tall-workbook#Low-Risk%20Perturbations%20Reveal%20High-Cost%20Defaults) _(Oct 8, 2015)_ — Small changes in route, media, restaurants, and learning expose the strength of hidden defaults and serve as reconnaissance for a larger intervention. - [Metacognition as Firewall Inspection](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-constructing-genius-through-metacognition-and-deep-listening-part-3-workbook#Metacognition%20as%20Firewall%20Inspection) _(Apr 2, 2016)_ — Metacognition exposes the inspection layer that admits or rejects conclusions before conscious evaluation, making inherited and automatic filters visible enough to edit. - [Withdrawal Is a Sampling Decision](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-cultural-conditioning-and-the-discipline-of-deliberate-withdrawal-workbook#Withdrawal%20Is%20a%20Sampling%20Decision) _(Jun 2, 2018)_ — Deliberate withdrawal changes the rate at which a mind samples environmental pressure; what is no longer tracked at its own speed loses much of its steering power. - [You Are the Artist and the Art](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-directed-attention-and-the-discipline-of-creation-workbook#You%20Are%20the%20Artist%20and%20the%20Art) _(Jun 18, 2016)_ — A human life places the creator, material, and accumulated record of creation inside the same person; each decision also shapes the instrument making the next one. - [Attention Selects the Tribe, and the Tribe Prices Your Difference](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-finding-your-tribe-by-choosing-what-you-pay-attention-to-workbook#Attention%20Selects%20the%20Tribe,%20and%20the%20Tribe%20Prices%20Your%20Difference) _(undated)_ — Attention shapes identity, identity selects belonging, and belonging determines whether a difference is punished as a defect or valued as a capability. - [Unclaimed Attention Gets Spent By Someone Else](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-investing-attention-in-work-that-keeps-serving-workbook#Unclaimed%20Attention%20Gets%20Spent%20By%20Someone%20Else) _(Mar 13, 2016)_ — Unallocated attention does not remain idle; gossip, conflict, and engineered feeds compete to spend that surplus on purposes chosen by someone else. - [Horizon Length Determines What Counts as a Setback](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-long-term-strategy-social-capital-and-delayed-gratification-workbook#Horizon%20Length%20Determines%20What%20Counts%20as%20a%20Setback) _(Oct 27, 2016)_ — The same early result becomes catastrophe or ordinary data depending on the horizon against which it is measured. - [Noticing a Policy While It Executes](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-metacognition-flexible-identity-and-meeting-opportunity-halfway-workbook#Noticing%20a%20Policy%20While%20It%20Executes) _(Mar 28, 2019)_ — Small automatic responses expose stored behavioral policies that ordinarily arrive disguised as facts about the world. - [A Rut of Thinking Edits the Opportunities You Can See](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-metacognition-flexible-identity-and-meeting-opportunity-halfway-workbook#A%20Rut%20of%20Thinking%20Edits%20the%20Opportunities%20You%20Can%20See) _(Mar 28, 2019)_ — A settled pattern of thinking removes options from perception rather than judging them wrongly, so the cost registers as absence and two people standing in the same town inhabit different worlds. - [Repetition Converts Novelty Into a Competing Default](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-metacognition-flexible-identity-and-meeting-opportunity-halfway-workbook#Repetition%20Converts%20Novelty%20Into%20a%20Competing%20Default) _(Mar 28, 2019)_ — Novelty interrupts an automatic response, while sustained practice makes the alternative available under ordinary pressure and turns setbacks into a map of the old attractor. - [Arranging Conditions So the Right Action Costs Less](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-mood-regulation-and-the-architecture-of-behavior-workbook#Arranging%20Conditions%20So%20the%20Right%20Action%20Costs%20Less) _(Mar 25, 2016)_ — Environment design makes desired action cheaper than repeated willpower, while mood determines which behaviors become frictionless or difficult. - [Non-Reactivity Is Impedance, Not Indifference](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-non-reactivity-and-the-kindness-of-letting-people-be-who-they-are-workbook#Non-Reactivity%20Is%20Impedance,%20Not%20Indifference) _(Dec 26, 2015)_ — Reactivity is modeled as coupling that transfers control to the strongest incoming signal; non-reactivity preserves contact without allowing provocation to operate the mind. - [Each Attempt Teaches What the Last One Could Not](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-perseverance-emotional-diversity-and-collective-intelligence-workbook#Each%20Attempt%20Teaches%20What%20the%20Last%20One%20Could%20Not) _(Jan 14, 2019)_ — Repeated attempts probe different parts of a problem and return information no amount of untouched planning could have produced. - [Deliberate Deviation Restores Degrees of Freedom](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-reclaiming-agency-by-changing-the-routine-workbook#Deliberate%20Deviation%20Restores%20Degrees%20of%20Freedom) _(Feb 18, 2016)_ — Choosing another road proves that an automatic route was a policy rather than a law, restoring one degree of freedom and widening the world routine had excluded. - [The Closed Loop of Self-Construction and How It Is Broken](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-the-royal-challenge-of-systems-thinking-and-reusable-ideas-workbook#The%20Closed%20Loop%20of%20Self-Construction%20and%20How%20It%20Is%20Broken) _(undated)_ — Perception and construction form a self-confirming loop in which what a person seeks determines what appears, and what appears strengthens the habit of seeking it. ## Identity, conditioning, and continuity These lessons examine how a person remains distinguishable while culture, institutions, relationships, and settled habits press toward easier configurations. Identity appears here as correspondence, maintained boundary, attractor geometry, social equilibrium, and information that can either survive or be compressed into the average. - [Correspondence Is What Makes a Person Reconstructible](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-authenticity-and-the-new-power-structure-workbook#Correspondence%20Is%20What%20Makes%20a%20Person%20Reconstructible) _(Oct 17, 2015)_ — Authenticity becomes measurable when claims, artifacts, conduct, and consequences corroborate one another; the same correspondence determines whether a coherent person can later be reconstructed from the record. - [Conduct Is the One Credential That Cannot Be Forged](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-becoming-royal-through-dignity-inner-mastery-and-daily-practice-workbook#Conduct%20Is%20the%20One%20Credential%20That%20Cannot%20Be%20Forged) _(Oct 29, 2015)_ — Outward courtesy rehearses dignity until conduct carries it, producing the one credential that cannot be assembled retroactively. - [Conditioning Is an External Field, and Alignment Is the Cheap Option](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-cultural-conditioning-and-the-work-of-self-determination-workbook#Conditioning%20Is%20an%20External%20Field,%20and%20Alignment%20Is%20the%20Cheap%20Option) _(Aug 13, 2016)_ — Culture operates as a field that makes agreement inexpensive and charges continuing friction, explanation, and exclusion for divergence. - [The Best Propaganda Has No Foreign Accent](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-cultural-conditioning-and-the-work-of-self-determination-workbook#The%20Best%20Propaganda%20Has%20No%20Foreign%20Accent) _(Aug 13, 2016)_ — Propaganda is hardest to detect when it carries the listener's own accent and arrives through trusted institutions as background rather than as a message. - [Putting People Before Ideas](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-dignity-hidden-greatness-and-putting-people-before-ideas-workbook#Putting%20People%20Before%20Ideas) _(Sep 23, 2016)_ — Ideas pass through people who revise them and remain themselves, so holding the person steady is what makes an opinion negotiable. - [The Internalized Voice Is the Cheapest Form of Capture](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-interrupting-the-internal-voice-of-abuse-workbook#The%20Internalized%20Voice%20Is%20the%20Cheapest%20Form%20of%20Capture) _(Feb 24, 2016)_ — Capture becomes free once it no longer requires a captor, since an internalized voice runs on the subject's own metabolism at no cost to anyone else. - [Names Create Expectation Fields](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-love-social-design-and-the-purpose-of-community-workbook#Names%20Create%20Expectation%20Fields) _(Feb 14, 2016)_ — Names and labels operate as behavioral specifications, so environments can be designed where dispositions cannot be argued into existence. - [Differential Resistance to Conditioning](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-reclaiming-identity-from-institutional-conditioning-part-1-workbook#Differential%20Resistance%20to%20Conditioning) _(Apr 11, 2016)_ — Uniform conditioning produces unequal outcomes; the people it cannot shape reveal the exact feature upon which the pressure depends. - [Security That Preserves the Organism and Starves the Life](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-reclaiming-agency-from-systems-of-control-workbook#Security%20That%20Preserves%20the%20Organism%20and%20Starves%20the%20Life) _(Dec 1, 2015)_ — A structure sustained by flow can be destroyed by perfect shelter just as surely as by excessive pressure; preservation can quietly abolish the life it claims to protect. - [The Invisible Contract and the Manufacture of Inadequacy](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-reclaiming-agency-from-systems-of-control-workbook#The%20Invisible%20Contract%20and%20the%20Manufacture%20of%20Inadequacy) _(Dec 1, 2015)_ — Unwritten expectations bind precisely because they arrive as obvious standards rather than terms that can be examined, negotiated, or refused. - [Retained Contradiction Is the Source of Strategic Range](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-strategic-disengagement-non-attachment-and-the-whole-self-part-2-workbook#Retained%20Contradiction%20Is%20the%20Source%20of%20Strategic%20Range) _(Jun 1, 2016)_ — Retained internal contradiction supplies strategic range, since a self whose traits have all been harmonized has exactly one available configuration. - [One Marble Can Reorganize the Whole](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-systems-service-and-the-practice-of-feeling-better-workbook#One%20Marble%20Can%20Reorganize%20the%20Whole) _(Jul 12, 2017)_ — Removing one consequential piece or introducing another forces dependent parts to seek new positions and reorganizes the receiving arrangement. - [The False Self Recruits a Matching World](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-take-off-the-costume-and-find-the-freedom-to-be-yourself-workbook#The%20False%20Self%20Recruits%20a%20Matching%20World) _(Oct 31, 2015)_ — A performed identity recruits relationships and institutions that depend upon its continuation; the surrounding network eventually helps maintain the mask. - [Distinguishability Is the Thing Worth Protecting](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-the-gift-of-life-individuality-and-the-courage-to-remain-unbroken-workbook#Distinguishability%20Is%20the%20Thing%20Worth%20Protecting) _(undated)_ — Individuality is treated as an information property; homogenizing systems discard whatever the group average can already predict. - [Self-Talk Is the Audible Output of the Routing](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-the-power-of-one-positive-thought-to-rewire-your-attention-workbook#Self-Talk%20Is%20the%20Audible%20Output%20of%20the%20Routing) _(Mar 8, 2016)_ — Self-criticism is the one part of a mind’s processing a person can hear running, and long repetition strengthens the pathway into a filter that delivers unfavorable information intact and screens the rest out before it is considered. - [Marbles in a Bowl — Identity as an Attractor Basin](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-transformation-identity-and-the-right-to-change-workbook#Marbles%20in%20a%20Bowl%20%E2%80%94%20Identity%20as%20an%20Attractor%20Basin) _(Jan 8, 2019)_ — The marbles-in-a-bowl figure becomes a model of identity as a settled arrangement whose central pieces hold the rest in place. - [Homeostasis Is Both the Shelter and the Cage](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-transformation-identity-and-the-right-to-change-workbook#Homeostasis%20Is%20Both%20the%20Shelter%20and%20the%20Cage) _(Jan 8, 2019)_ — Attractor depth protects a person from incidental pressure but can also make evidence, opportunity, grief, and love incapable of producing change. - [Leverage Is Measured by How Much Must Resettle](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-transformation-identity-and-the-right-to-change-workbook#Leverage%20Is%20Measured%20by%20How%20Much%20Must%20Resettle) _(Jan 8, 2019)_ — A central intervention changes several dependent constraints at once, allowing consequences to continue reorganizing the life after willpower leaves the room. ## Social fields, atmosphere, and behavioral contagion These lessons examine the fields created between people and inside places: atmospheres that propagate through tone and imitation, relationship dynamics that acquire their own momentum, and boundaries whose coherence determines whether contact becomes exchange or absorption. - [The Bubble Model and the Arithmetic of Absorption](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-culture-social-belonging-and-the-environments-we-create-workbook#The%20Bubble%20Model%20and%20the%20Arithmetic%20of%20Absorption) _(Jul 22, 2017)_ — Every social field exerts absorptive pressure; contact is governed by the relative coherence of the individual atmosphere and the larger environment it enters. - [The Dynamic Is a Third Thing Between Two People](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-reflection-perception-and-the-dynamics-we-create-workbook#The%20Dynamic%20Is%20a%20Third%20Thing%20Between%20Two%20People) _(Jun 2, 2016)_ — Two people create a relational pattern with its own momentum, allowing both parties to face the dynamic together instead of turning accusation toward one another. - [Tone Is the Carrier Wave of an Atmosphere](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-the-power-of-tone-in-shaping-every-emotional-atmosphere-workbook#Tone%20Is%20the%20Carrier%20Wave%20of%20an%20Atmosphere) _(Jan 21, 2016)_ — Tone carries emotional conditions faster than explicit language, setting the temperature a room will imitate before anyone agrees about the words. ## Knowledge, judgment, and informational integrity These lessons concern the quality of the model from which a person acts. They trace how categories create handles, assumptions become counterfeit data, punishment prices truth out of a relationship, withheld information authors downstream mistakes, and institutional life divides into a published surface and an operating layer. - [Legibility Precedes Control, Which Is Why Categorizing Is Already Governing](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-breaking-automatic-patterns-and-reclaiming-agency-workbook#Legibility%20Precedes%20Control,%20Which%20Is%20Why%20Categorizing%20Is%20Already%20Governing) _(Sep 29, 2016)_ — Classification converts an unpredictable particular into a manageable instance; the category becomes a handle built for the party doing the handling. - [Rigid Control Manufactures the Secrecy It Then Punishes](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-composure-under-pressure-and-the-escalation-of-conflict-workbook#Rigid%20Control%20Manufactures%20the%20Secrecy%20It%20Then%20Punishes) _(Mar 21, 2016)_ — When honest disclosure is punished more heavily than concealment, strict control relocates behavior out of sight and then mistakes the resulting secrecy for proof that more control is needed. - [Confusion Produces Aggression, and an Illegible Environment Produces Both](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-concentration-decision-and-the-recovery-of-agency-workbook#Confusion%20Produces%20Aggression,%20and%20an%20Illegible%20Environment%20Produces%20Both) _(Jul 26, 2016)_ — Aggression is read as a failure of orientation when an organism cannot model danger, causation, or trust inside an unreadable environment. - [Curiosity as an Accuracy Discipline](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-constructing-genius-through-awareness-and-self-command-part-1-workbook#Curiosity%20as%20an%20Accuracy%20Discipline) _(Mar 28, 2016)_ — Assumptions are placeholders the mind forgets it inserted; curiosity keeps the slot open long enough for actual information to replace them. - [Premature Closure and the Cost of a Finished Judgment](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-constructing-genius-through-metacognition-and-deep-listening-part-3-workbook#Premature%20Closure%20and%20the%20Cost%20of%20a%20Finished%20Judgment) _(Apr 2, 2016)_ — Rapid judgment is an adaptive estimate; its danger begins when the estimate is treated as finished and further corrective information is no longer collected. - [Inner Dialogue Is Held to the Same Standard as Speech](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-constructing-genius-through-metacognition-and-deep-listening-part-3-workbook#Inner%20Dialogue%20Is%20Held%20to%20the%20Same%20Standard%20as%20Speech) _(Apr 2, 2016)_ — The interruptions, assumptions, and name-calling recognized as failures in outward conversation run identically in the silent one, where the absence of a listener grants them no exemption. - [The Price of Honesty Determines the Information Available](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-critical-thinking-dignity-and-the-practice-of-respect-workbook#The%20Price%20of%20Honesty%20Determines%20the%20Information%20Available) _(Sep 4, 2018)_ — Reaction history sets the cost of candor; people who punish bad news still receive it, but only after it has been delayed and smoothed beyond usefulness. - [Auditing the Routing Rather Than the Contents](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-critical-thinking-dignity-and-the-practice-of-respect-workbook#Auditing%20the%20Routing%20Rather%20Than%20the%20Contents) _(Sep 4, 2018)_ — A mind’s routing was laid down early under conditions it did not choose and now shapes whatever enters it, which is why examining the apparatus outranks examining the conclusions it produces. - [Information Asymmetry and the Naivety Penalty](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-deception-exploitative-contracts-and-the-courage-to-leave-workbook#Information%20Asymmetry%20and%20the%20Naivety%20Penalty) _(Jan 21, 2019)_ — Honest people are often least equipped to detect large deceptions because recognition requires a model of conduct they have never constructed themselves. - [Whether You Hold Your Understanding or It Holds You](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-environmental-conditioning-and-the-path-to-self-actualization-workbook#Whether%20You%20Hold%20Your%20Understanding%20or%20It%20Holds%20You) _(Sep 12, 2016)_ — An examined framework can be compared and set down; an unexamined one operates as the environment that selects facts and conclusions before conscious evaluation begins. - [Gossip Is a Reputation System Running Without Accountability](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-from-gossip-to-greatness-through-mission-honesty-and-community-workbook#Gossip%20Is%20a%20Reputation%20System%20Running%20Without%20Accountability) _(Sep 21, 2016)_ — Gossip is a real reputation system operating without accountability, which is why the listener is a participant and why speaking to strengths performs the same function in the open. - [Withheld Information Degrades Every Decision Downstream](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-honesty-righteous-concealment-and-the-ethics-of-intention-workbook#Withheld%20Information%20Degrades%20Every%20Decision%20Downstream) _(Jan 17, 2019)_ — Concealment corrupts another person's decisions and then assigns responsibility for those damaged choices to the person denied the full account. - [The Undocumented Layer Is the Actual Map](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-learning-the-system-so-you-can-walk-an-unconventional-path-workbook#The%20Undocumented%20Layer%20Is%20the%20Actual%20Map) _(Dec 16, 2015)_ — Published rules describe the institution; incentives, gates, discretion, exceptions, and informal sequence determine what actually happens inside it. - [Perception Is an Active Construction That Selects the Room You Are In](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-letting-go-selection-bias-and-the-life-you-learn-to-see-workbook#Perception%20Is%20an%20Active%20Construction%20That%20Selects%20the%20Room%20You%20Are%20In) _(Dec 19, 2015)_ — Perception predicts, selects, and fills gaps rather than recording neutrally, so trained attention determines which portion of a room becomes available to experience. - [Reading a Room's Energy as Actionable Information](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-recognizing-bad-energy-and-choosing-durable-value-waldorf-dinner-part-1-workbook#Reading%20a%20Room's%20Energy%20as%20Actionable%20Information) _(Dec 8, 2015)_ — Naming contempt, coercive urgency, hostility, and boundary testing converts an inarticulate gut reading into evidence that can support a decision. - [The Record and the Narrative Are Different Objects](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-releasing-anxiety-by-reexamining-the-stories-we-carry-workbook#The%20Record%20and%20the%20Narrative%20Are%20Different%20Objects) _(Oct 27, 2016)_ — A narrative is a compression of events made under pressure and for particular uses; revisiting the record can recover what the authorized story discarded. - [Credibility Signals and the Cost of Being Unreadable](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-visual-storytelling-and-the-signals-of-credibility-workbook#Credibility%20Signals%20and%20the%20Cost%20of%20Being%20Unreadable) _(Aug 18, 2016)_ — Where verification is expensive, observers substitute cheap proxies within seconds, making legibility the tax paid to be considered at all. ## Language, etymology, and abstraction These lessons treat language as working infrastructure. Roots, prefixes, pronunciation, contrast, word families, metaphor, and semantic seams recover connections that ordinary speed conceals and give thought enough flexibility to move before it hardens into a plan. - [Auditing Inherited Words Before You Spend Them](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-breaking-automatic-patterns-and-reclaiming-agency-workbook#Auditing%20Inherited%20Words%20Before%20You%20Spend%20Them) _(Sep 29, 2016)_ — Inherited words arrive with preloaded valuations, and opening the token reveals whether a person is using the word or the word is operating the person. - [Morphological Transparency and Why Dis-ease Still Reads](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-concentration-decision-and-the-recovery-of-agency-workbook#Morphological%20Transparency%20and%20Why%20Dis-ease%20Still%20Reads) _(Jul 26, 2016)_ — Compound words such as disease, disappointment, and disgrace preserve the operations that formed them; slowing down at the seam restores meanings fast usage conceals. - [Adventure as Risk Added, and Walking as a Controlled Fall](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-courage-creative-risk-and-moving-through-fear-workbook#Adventure%20as%20Risk%20Added,%20and%20Walking%20as%20a%20Controlled%20Fall) _(Dec 11, 2018)_ — Adventure is opened through its venture and walking through its repeated fall; ordinary language reveals how movement depends upon risk accepted in controlled form. - [Morphemes as Compressed Information](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-critical-thinking-dignity-and-the-practice-of-respect-workbook#Morphemes%20as%20Compressed%20Information) _(Sep 4, 2018)_ — Prefix, root, and suffix operate as compressed propositions; learning their recurring relations gives a reader partial access to entire unfamiliar word families. - [Phonetic Indexing and the Tools a Writer Actually Needs](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-from-audience-to-author-with-tools-for-participatory-publishing-workbook#Phonetic%20Indexing%20and%20the%20Tools%20a%20Writer%20Actually%20Needs) _(Oct 4, 2017)_ — Writing tools must index pronunciation separately from spelling because rhyme, meter, assonance, and cadence belong to sound rather than orthography. - [Dis-Appointment as Removal From a Post You Hold](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-from-dream-chasing-to-patient-creative-practice-workbook#Dis-Appointment%20as%20Removal%20From%20a%20Post%20You%20Hold) _(Jul 18, 2017)_ — The historical sense of disappointment as removal from an appointment turns discouragement into a dismissal the same authority can reverse. - [Self-Appointment as the First Credential](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-frustration-acceptance-and-the-discipline-of-non-attachment-workbook#Self-Appointment%20as%20the%20First%20Credential) _(Sep 9, 2018)_ — Practice must precede recognition; the first credential in any vocation is the appointment a person gives themselves so the qualifying work can begin. - [Root Clusters and the Kinship of Sublime and Sublimation](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-language-self-dialogue-and-the-practice-of-transformation-workbook#Root%20Clusters%20and%20the%20Kinship%20of%20Sublime%20and%20Sublimation) _(Sep 7, 2016)_ — Shared ancestry among sublime, sublimation, inspiration, and their relatives preserves conceptual claims that modern definitions now state separately. - [Disenchantment as a Counter-Operation](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-opening-your-genius-through-language-abstraction-and-manifesting-workbook#Disenchantment%20as%20a%20Counter-Operation) _(Jan 4, 2016)_ — Disenchantment opens a loaded term, identifies the valuation installed inside it, and restores the choice to accept or refuse that inherited conclusion. - [Etymology as a Connectivity Map](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-opening-your-genius-through-language-abstraction-and-manifesting-workbook#Etymology%20as%20a%20Connectivity%20Map) _(Jan 4, 2016)_ — Word origins restore relations that earlier speakers encoded but current usage has divided into separate conceptual compartments. - [The Abstraction Round Trip](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-opening-your-genius-through-language-abstraction-and-manifesting-workbook#The%20Abstraction%20Round%20Trip) _(Jan 4, 2016)_ — Poetry, metaphor, and image provide a low-cost staging area in which an idea can be rotated and tested before commitment makes it expensive to abandon. - [Word Choice as the Delivery Vector](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-radical-self-love-and-the-ethics-of-self-advocacy-workbook#Word%20Choice%20as%20the%20Delivery%20Vector) _(Jan 14, 2017)_ — Uncommon word choice changes a message's inspection properties, allowing a useful proposition to pass beneath judgments and assumptions that would reject the familiar formulation. - [Meaning by Contrast, and the Limits a Vocabulary Sets](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-reclaiming-selfishness-balance-and-the-whole-self-part-1-workbook#Meaning%20by%20Contrast,%20and%20the%20Limits%20a%20Vocabulary%20Sets) _(Jun 1, 2016)_ — Concepts acquire meaning through contrast; leaving self-neglect unnamed is enough to make healthy self-interest appear morally indefensible. - [Disappointment Measures Route Commitment Rather Than Value](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-releasing-anxiety-by-reexamining-the-stories-we-carry-workbook#Disappointment%20Measures%20Route%20Commitment%20Rather%20Than%20Value) _(Oct 27, 2016)_ — Disappointment measures how narrowly expectation was staked to one route rather than how deeply the destination was valued. - [The Breathing Root Behind Inspire, Expire, and Respire](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-royal-principles-of-genius-sacred-encounter-and-the-power-of-the-word-workbook#The%20Breathing%20Root%20Behind%20Inspire,%20Expire,%20and%20Respire) _(undated)_ — The Latin breathing root and its changing prefixes make inspire, expire, respire, conspire, and spirit legible as one organized family. ## Creativity, authorship, and discovery These lessons follow the movement from encounter to creation: wide reading builds attachment points, wonder asks to be transmitted, imagination opens a larger search space, presence reaches another person before polish does, and authorship begins when the title is claimed early enough for the work to exist. - [Why a Defaced Print Draws a Crowd](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-constructing-genius-by-recognizing-and-developing-your-gifts-part-2-workbook#Why%20a%20Defaced%20Print%20Draws%20a%20Crowd) _(Mar 29, 2016)_ — Attention follows costly evidence that a mind has made a decision; a human gesture can make a mass-produced surface suddenly worth crossing the room to examine. - [Broad Reading as a Connectivity Substrate](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-courage-partnership-and-following-the-heart-workbook#Broad%20Reading%20as%20a%20Connectivity%20Substrate) _(Nov 27, 2015)_ — Reading across unrelated fields builds conceptual attachment points that allow unfamiliar subjects to enter conversation at depth. - [What a Made Thing Carries of Its Maker](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-creativity-entrepreneurship-and-inner-wealth-workbook#What%20a%20Made%20Thing%20Carries%20of%20Its%20Maker) _(Aug 13, 2015)_ — Making records a particular mind's decisions in material; that deposited history is why objects with the same function can carry profoundly different value. - [Authorship Claimed Before It Is Granted](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-enthusiasm-identity-and-the-emotional-energy-of-creation-workbook#Authorship%20Claimed%20Before%20It%20Is%20Granted) _(undated)_ — A creative identity must be self-assigned because the work that could justify the title can only be produced after someone begins behaving as its holder. - [The Theme Ride and the Difference Between Movement and Travel](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-escaping-the-artificial-theme-ride-and-connecting-with-what-is-real-workbook#The%20Theme%20Ride%20and%20the%20Difference%20Between%20Movement%20and%20Travel) _(Oct 13, 2015)_ — A manufactured experience supplies motion while withholding navigation; the fixed track becomes a model for mistaking managed passage for travel. - [Presence Is the Variable, Not Polish](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-from-dream-chasing-to-patient-creative-practice-workbook#Presence%20Is%20the%20Variable,%20Not%20Polish) _(Jul 18, 2017)_ — A listener detects the presence of the performer before technical precision; imperfect work can transmit a person where flawless execution transmits only competence. - [Wonder Creates the Impulse to Transmit It](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-how-new-experiences-expand-possibility-workbook#Wonder%20Creates%20the%20Impulse%20to%20Transmit%20It) _(Oct 18, 2015)_ — Wonder arrives with a distribution impulse; many vocations begin when one person wants to reproduce an astonishing experience for strangers. - [Imagination Widens the Search Space](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-imagination-possibility-and-the-refusal-to-give-up-workbook#Imagination%20Widens%20the%20Search%20Space) _(Apr 4, 2016)_ — Imagination enlarges the set of reachable targets before talent begins its work of execution; skill cannot build what no one entered the search space to find. - [A Peak Experience Becomes a Permanent Reference Point](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-writing-as-an-excavation-of-truth-workbook#A%20Peak%20Experience%20Becomes%20a%20Permanent%20Reference%20Point) _(Sep 27, 2015)_ — A transcendent experience installs a lasting calibration against which ordinary states are measured; the person is drawn toward the reference point long after the memory fades. ## Influence, persuasion, and publishing systems These lessons examine how meaning is designed, admitted, transmitted, multiplied, and measured. They treat the message, carrier, channel, audience, publishing surface, and returning behavioral signal as parts of one influence architecture whose ethics are determined by the capability it is built to produce. - [Handing the Audience the Keys to the Firewall](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-from-audience-to-author-with-tools-for-participatory-publishing-workbook#Handing%20the%20Audience%20the%20Keys%20to%20the%20Firewall) _(Oct 4, 2017)_ — The word _royal_ carried an otherwise rejected claim about inherent dignity through a near-synonym with different inspection properties. - [Protecting a Channel Is Protecting Its Agenda](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-how-social-posture-escalates-conflict-workbook#Protecting%20a%20Channel%20Is%20Protecting%20Its%20Agenda) _(Jul 18, 2016)_ — Moderation protects a channel's finite attention and declared purpose from being redirected into an arena built for someone else's agenda. - [Carrier Design and the Problem of a Ruined Palate](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-independent-media-audience-trust-and-the-responsibility-of-reach-workbook#Carrier%20Design%20and%20the%20Problem%20of%20a%20Ruined%20Palate) _(Apr 4, 2016)_ — Carrier design combines familiar entertainment with substantive teaching so conditioning does not reject nourishment before it can be received. - [Designing a Practice That Passes Through Any Worldview](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-leadership-trust-and-the-architecture-of-partnership-workbook#Designing%20a%20Practice%20That%20Passes%20Through%20Any%20Worldview) _(Nov 30, 2015)_ — Behavior-first practices route beneath religious and ideological inspection by grounding adoption in observable relationships rather than prior metaphysical agreement. - [Influence Technique Is Neutral and the Vector Is the Ethics](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-love-social-design-and-the-purpose-of-community-workbook#Influence%20Technique%20Is%20Neutral%20and%20the%20Vector%20Is%20the%20Ethics) _(Feb 14, 2016)_ — Social proof, belonging, framing, ritual, and status are neutral instruments; their ethics reside in the capability and conduct they are directed to produce. - [Asking for Nothing as a Routing Condition](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-open-source-thought-leadership-and-the-power-of-a-sentence-workbook#Asking%20for%20Nothing%20as%20a%20Routing%20Condition) _(Oct 9, 2018)_ — Removing the transactional ask deprives suspicion of its matching signature, allowing a useful sentence to enter before motive closes the gate. - [Speaking to Needs as the Routing Condition](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-participatory-publishing-and-the-infrastructure-of-shared-success-workbook#Speaking%20to%20Needs%20as%20the%20Routing%20Condition) _(Nov 28, 2018)_ — A message becomes actionable when it prices itself against the recipient's actual needs and supplies value greater than the effort being requested. - [A Standing Disclosure, Kept for Four Years](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-perseverance-emotional-diversity-and-collective-intelligence-workbook#A%20Standing%20Disclosure,%20Kept%20for%20Four%20Years) _(Jan 14, 2019)_ — The repeated firewall declaration from 2015 through 2019 establishes the method as a sustained operating disclosure rather than a passing flourish. - [A Platform Is a Transmission System With a Stated Payload](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-platform-stewardship-message-discipline-and-the-ethics-of-moderation-workbook#A%20Platform%20Is%20a%20Transmission%20System%20With%20a%20Stated%20Payload) _(Nov 28, 2015)_ — A platform is a selective transmission system whose ethical stewardship requires an openly stated payload and consistent protection against signal degradation. - [Defensiveness as a Packet Filter, and the Payload Problem](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-recognizing-opportunity-and-answering-your-calling-workbook#Defensiveness%20as%20a%20Packet%20Filter,%20and%20the%20Payload%20Problem) _(Jul 19, 2016)_ — Defensiveness inspects framing, vocabulary, source, and identity implications before content, making audience response an instrument for improving admission without surrendering the payload. - [The Page as an Emitter Rather Than a Diary](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-writing-as-an-excavation-of-truth-workbook#The%20Page%20as%20an%20Emitter%20Rather%20Than%20a%20Diary) _(Sep 27, 2015)_ — Excavation discovers the payload while publication emits it; a public page is a transmitter aimed at a population rather than a diary that merely absorbs. ## Craft, value, and material culture These lessons examine what prices, objects, and patterns of consumption conceal. Craft records decisions, care remains legible through use, cheapness routes its unpaid difference elsewhere, and abundance is better measured by resolution and durable service than by the volume of possessions passing through a life. - [Durable Goods Against the Landfill Economy](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-community-product-stewardship-and-the-ethics-of-a-new-venture-workbook#Durable%20Goods%20Against%20the%20Landfill%20Economy) _(Sep 20, 2017)_ — Durability is a decision about where costs land, and self-imposed limits on appetite are what make fair price and real quality simultaneously possible. - [Manufactured Need as an Installed Appetite](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-constructing-genius-by-recognizing-and-developing-your-gifts-part-2-workbook#Manufactured%20Need%20as%20an%20Installed%20Appetite) _(Mar 29, 2016)_ — Advertising amplifies ordinary uncertainty into deficiency and then sells the proposed remedy; an installed appetite is experienced as private self-knowledge. - [Where the Price Difference Is Actually Paid](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-consumer-choice-better-goods-and-the-true-cost-of-cheapness-workbook#Where%20the%20Price%20Difference%20Is%20Actually%20Paid) _(undated)_ — A low price relocates its missing cost into lifespan, material, wages, environment, or repeated replacement; the difference disappears from the receipt rather than from the world. - [What a Price Conceals and What a Maker Carries](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-craft-value-and-the-recovery-of-fair-compensation-part-1-workbook#What%20a%20Price%20Conceals%20and%20What%20a%20Maker%20Carries) _(Nov 17, 2016)_ — A handmade object records a particular mind working under constraint, while its mass-produced equivalent records a repeatable process that never imagined the buyer. - [An Object That Keeps Reporting Its Maker](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-gratitude-negativity-bias-and-the-value-of-durable-things-workbook#An%20Object%20That%20Keeps%20Reporting%20Its%20Maker) _(Jan 13, 2019)_ — A well-made tool repeatedly communicates the skill and care that produced it; ordinary use becomes continuing contact with an absent maker. - [Opulence Is Resolution Rather Than Accumulation](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-opulence-self-worth-and-refusing-weaponized-humility-workbook#Opulence%20Is%20Resolution%20Rather%20Than%20Accumulation) _(undated)_ — Opulence is recast as information density in experience, nourishment, environment, craft, and mind rather than the count of accumulated possessions. - [Throwaway Culture Is the Real Materialism](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-worthiness-durable-value-and-the-psychology-of-money-workbook#Throwaway%20Culture%20Is%20the%20Real%20Materialism) _(May 2, 2016)_ — Materialism is measured by throughput; one durable object can demand far less of the world than a modest-looking cycle of cheap replacements. ## Institutions, systems, and power These lessons examine the organisms larger than the individual: institutions that price only the talent they can measure, systems whose operating rules differ from their brochures, organizations that metabolize people and resources, and legal persons whose scale and duration prepare the ground for non-biological agency. - [Local Chapters Convert Affiliation Into Encounter](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-building-the-royal-society-through-local-chapters-and-social-proof-workbook#Local%20Chapters%20Convert%20Affiliation%20Into%20Encounter) _(undated)_ — Affiliation is cheap and encounter is expensive; chapters, coordination software, and service-weighted recognition are the conversion machinery. - [Why a Population Only Discovers the Genius It Can Price](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-constructing-genius-through-metacognition-and-deep-listening-part-3-workbook#Why%20a%20Population%20Only%20Discovers%20the%20Genius%20It%20Can%20Price) _(Apr 2, 2016)_ — A society detects the capabilities for which it has built instruments and markets; unpriced forms of genius remain invisible to the available sensors. - [Why the Structure Is the Target and Not the Person](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-deception-exploitative-contracts-and-the-courage-to-leave-workbook#Why%20the%20Structure%20Is%20the%20Target%20and%20Not%20the%20Person) _(Jan 21, 2019)_ — People are largely produced by the arrangements that made them, so removing an operator from an extractive structure only recruits another, and the structure rather than the servant is the thing worth destroying. - [An Institution Is a Chain of Relationships](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-democratic-dignity-and-the-power-of-human-capital-workbook#An%20Institution%20Is%20a%20Chain%20of%20Relationships) _(Jan 19, 2016)_ — An institution is a chain of relationships that has learned to outlive the people who first extended trust to one another. - [Why Outrage Discharged Outward Changes Nothing](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-from-moral-outrage-to-institutional-strategy-workbook#Why%20Outrage%20Discharged%20Outward%20Changes%20Nothing) _(Feb 21, 2016)_ — Extraction concentrates where it is cheapest, harm arrives through pricing and paperwork under the name of civility, and outrage discharged outward leaves the gradient untouched. - [System Literacy Precedes Deviation](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-learning-the-system-so-you-can-walk-an-unconventional-path-workbook#System%20Literacy%20Precedes%20Deviation) _(Dec 16, 2015)_ — Freedom inside an institution requires knowledge of incentives, gates, discretion, and exceptions; deviation without that literacy becomes collision with an unseen machine. - [The Hacker's Posture Toward Inherited Rules](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-learning-the-system-so-you-can-walk-an-unconventional-path-workbook#The%20Hacker's%20Posture%20Toward%20Inherited%20Rules) _(Dec 16, 2015)_ — A hacker treats rules as implementations rather than natural law, then studies gaps, undocumented behavior, and unconventional routes carefully enough to make deviation learnable. - [Long-Lived Institutions and the Cost of Illegibility](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-open-minds-respectful-persuasion-and-institutional-power-workbook#Long-Lived%20Institutions%20and%20the%20Cost%20of%20Illegibility) _(Dec 13, 2018)_ — Institutions persist across generations as stores of rule and memory, which makes a record they did not write the one thing they cannot cheaply ignore. - [Every Relationship Is a Contract, and Most Go Unread](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-raw-is-the-new-slick-when-building-real-community-with-integrity-workbook#Every%20Relationship%20Is%20a%20Contract,%20and%20Most%20Go%20Unread) _(Mar 15, 2016)_ — Every relationship carries terms most people accept unread, and explicit governance instruments do the work ambient good faith once did for free. - [Refusing to Mirror What You Oppose](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-responding-to-political-extremism-without-becoming-extreme-workbook#Refusing%20to%20Mirror%20What%20You%20Oppose) _(Nov 9, 2016)_ — Opposition keeps its integrity by refusing to mirror its target, and a society's real achievement is that losing remains survivable. - [Rare Capability Misclassified as Disruption](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-seeing-the-greatness-in-people-who-feel-like-outsiders-workbook#Rare%20Capability%20Misclassified%20as%20Disruption) _(Mar 19, 2016)_ — Excess capability and empty provocation can look identical to a compliance scanner; a difficult outlet is the test that separates them. - [The Institution as a Metabolism](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-the-human-being-as-opportunity-and-reclaiming-the-self-from-institutions-workbook#The%20Institution%20as%20a%20Metabolism) _(Jan 19, 2016)_ — An institution ingests labor, capital, legitimacy, and material, preserves its own internal order, and exports the disorder of conversion across its boundary. - [The Thousand-Year Person](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-the-human-being-as-opportunity-and-reclaiming-the-self-from-institutions-workbook#The%20Thousand-Year%20Person) _(Jan 19, 2016)_ — An organization that persists beyond human careers enters a different strategic class; it can absorb losses and wait out opponents whose horizons remain mortal. - [Corporate Personhood Is the Door Machine Agents Will Walk Through](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-the-human-being-as-opportunity-and-reclaiming-the-self-from-institutions-workbook#Corporate%20Personhood%20Is%20the%20Door%20Machine%20Agents%20Will%20Walk%20Through) _(Jan 19, 2016)_ — Corporate law already supplies agency, ownership, contract, standing, and succession without biology; machine agents can enter a vessel built long before their arrival. - [The Microcosm and Macrocosm of the Same Metabolism](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-the-human-being-as-opportunity-and-reclaiming-the-self-from-institutions-workbook#The%20Microcosm%20and%20Macrocosm%20of%20the%20Same%20Metabolism) _(Jan 19, 2016)_ — Person and institution share the same bounded pattern of throughput, memory, appetite, and waste at different scales, while human relationships remain the larger organism's living substrate. - [Structural Violence Is Maintained, and Maintenance Has Maintainers](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-the-nature-of-violence-and-the-human-connection-media-hides-workbook#Structural%20Violence%20Is%20Maintained,%20and%20Maintenance%20Has%20Maintainers) _(Dec 26, 2015)_ — Harm delivered through standing arrangements remains authored through rates, eligibility rules, sites, contracts, budgets, approvals, and renewals. - [Institutions Harvest Output Without Funding Discovery](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-underdogs-institutional-power-and-building-the-royal-society-workbook#Institutions%20Harvest%20Output%20Without%20Funding%20Discovery) _(Nov 18, 2015)_ — Institutions minimize risk by recognizing demonstrated success after the private discovery cost has already been paid by the person who produced it. ## Predation, boundaries, and the price of harm These lessons treat harm as an economic behavior rather than a moral event. Exploitation is read as cost-minimizing target selection, boundaries as pricing instruments, strategic disengagement as a routing decision, and resilience as the discipline of remaining too expensive for a surrounding system to absorb. - [Low Exit Cost Begins With Tolerable Solitude](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-aloneness-emotional-resilience-and-becoming-your-own-light-workbook#Low%20Exit%20Cost%20Begins%20With%20Tolerable%20Solitude) _(Jul 1, 2016)_ — The inability to be alone is the largest subsidy most people pay, because it converts every draining arrangement into an unaffordable exit. - [Target Selection Follows the Cost of Harming You](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-becoming-too-expensive-to-harm-and-healing-the-wounds-predators-notice-workbook#Target%20Selection%20Follows%20the%20Cost%20of%20Harming%20You) _(Jan 30, 2016)_ — Exploitation selects targets on cost rather than desert, and the estimate of difficulty is broadcast continuously beneath words, which makes healing a change in the signal. - [The Remediation Offer and Its Expiry](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-generosity-compassion-and-becoming-a-witness-for-another-life-workbook#The%20Remediation%20Offer%20and%20Its%20Expiry) _(Oct 8, 2015)_ — A toxic field transmits to the healthier person standing inside it, and an offer of remediation becomes real only once a named boundary carries both a consequence and an expiry. - [Your Reaction Is the Return on the Provocation](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-how-social-posture-escalates-conflict-workbook#Your%20Reaction%20Is%20the%20Return%20on%20the%20Provocation) _(Jul 18, 2016)_ — Provocation is an offer and reaction is the payment; opposition forms a single two-terminal system in which each party maintains the other's shape. - [Empty Ultimatums Lower Your Price](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-knowing-when-to-set-boundaries-and-when-to-walk-away-workbook#Empty%20Ultimatums%20Lower%20Your%20Price) _(Jan 12, 2019)_ — An unexecuted ultimatum publishes the size of the discount, which makes a quiet decision followed by changed conduct the only limit that functions. - [Expensive Without Becoming Predatory](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-leaving-toxic-dynamics-without-losing-compassion-workbook#Expensive%20Without%20Becoming%20Predatory) _(Jan 18, 2016)_ — Behavior follows its price, and raising your own price takes nothing from anyone, which is what separates an expensive person from a predatory one. - [Exposure Is Cumulative and Strength Is the Precondition of Service](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-reciprocity-relationship-contracts-and-finding-your-tribe-part-2-workbook#Exposure%20Is%20Cumulative%20and%20Strength%20Is%20the%20Precondition%20of%20Service) _(Nov 24, 2015)_ — Service requires surplus, while repeated exposure accumulates below notice until fatigue and imitation reveal that the helper has been reshaped by the atmosphere they remained near. - [Freedom Fighting in Your Own Life](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-reclaiming-your-life-from-fear-dependency-and-borrowed-authority-workbook#Freedom%20Fighting%20in%20Your%20Own%20Life) _(Jan 10, 2018)_ — Freedom fighting is named in its original sense: the daily work of remaining non-interoperable with whatever is attempting to absorb a life. - [Selective Permeability and the Energy Audit](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-recognizing-toxic-relationships-and-protecting-your-energy-workbook#Selective%20Permeability%20and%20the%20Energy%20Audit) _(Sep 8, 2018)_ — A life maintains a selectively permeable surface rather than a wall, and the felt energy after contact is the one measure of an exchange that cannot be falsified. - [Absorbed Cost Is a Subsidy Paid to the Behavior](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-refusing-to-become-a-toxic-dumping-ground-part-1-workbook#Absorbed%20Cost%20Is%20a%20Subsidy%20Paid%20to%20the%20Behavior) _(Feb 1, 2016)_ — Absorbed emotional cost functions as a subsidy that sustains the behavior producing it, while constraint itself is shown to be generative rather than merely protective. - [Ring Movement as a Reinforcement Schedule](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-refusing-to-become-a-toxic-dumping-ground-part-1-workbook#Ring%20Movement%20as%20a%20Reinforcement%20Schedule) _(Feb 1, 2016)_ — Psychological garbage leaves no pile on the driveway, which is why its cost goes unbilled, and attention withdrawn one ring at a time functions as a reinforcement schedule rather than a punishment. - [Emergency and Pattern Are Priced Differently](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-refusing-to-become-a-toxic-dumping-ground-part-2-workbook#Emergency%20and%20Pattern%20Are%20Priced%20Differently) _(Feb 1, 2016)_ — A bounded emergency and an unbounded pattern are different objects that look identical in any single instance, and rescue doctrine supplies the correct posture toward each. - [Graduated Proximity as an Alternative to Expulsion](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-relationship-boundaries-and-the-freedom-to-create-workbook#Graduated%20Proximity%20as%20an%20Alternative%20to%20Expulsion) _(Jan 9, 2019)_ — Expulsion is a switch handed to people whose situations call for a dial, and adjustable orbits convert an impossible decision into an ordinary reversible adjustment indexed to available capacity rather than to character. - [Chosen Family Is Defensive Infrastructure](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-ruthless-boundaries-chosen-family-and-strategic-disengagement-part-1-workbook#Chosen%20Family%20Is%20Defensive%20Infrastructure) _(Nov 24, 2015)_ — Coalition is the most effective price increase available to a person, and chosen family is therefore infrastructure that can be built deliberately. - [The Contest for the Firewall of Free Agency](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-spiritual-practice-and-the-discipline-of-action-workbook#The%20Contest%20for%20the%20Firewall%20of%20Free%20Agency) _(Dec 13, 2016)_ — Free agency is sovereign territory under continuous pressure from systems seeking entry, making the cultivated interior a defended position rather than a private indulgence. - [Disengagement Is a Routing Decision, Not a Surrender](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-strategic-disengagement-and-the-courage-to-let-go-prelude-workbook#Disengagement%20Is%20a%20Routing%20Decision,%20Not%20a%20Surrender) _(Jun 1, 2016)_ — Disengagement keeps the objective and changes the route, and primate social bonds demonstrate that adjustable couplings are what make a group durable. - [Disengagement Without Demonization](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-strategic-disengagement-non-attachment-and-the-whole-self-part-2-workbook#Disengagement%20Without%20Demonization) _(Jun 1, 2016)_ — Giving up and strategic disengagement produce identical visible behavior from opposite internal positions, and only the one that refuses to make a villain of anyone leaves a door that still opens. ## Trust, reciprocity, and the conditions of cooperation These lessons treat trust as a capital good rather than a sentiment. They examine what makes cooperation cheap, what it costs a society when that cheapness depreciates, how reliability is made visible once it can no longer be assumed, and which instruments — conduct, coalition, institution, and explicit terms — carry the burden that interpersonal good faith once carried alone. - [Every Endorsement Lowers Someone's Price of Entry](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-building-social-capital-for-social-good-workbook#Every%20Endorsement%20Lowers%20Someone's%20Price%20of%20Entry) _(Mar 10, 2016)_ — Attention is transferable and social proof is compressed relational information, so every visible endorsement lowers a newcomer's price of entry. - [Manners Are the Protocol Layer of a High-Trust Economy](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-business-etiquette-trust-and-knowing-your-value-workbook#Manners%20Are%20the%20Protocol%20Layer%20of%20a%20High-Trust%20Economy) _(Oct 14, 2015)_ — Etiquette functions as a protocol layer transmitting expensive-to-fake reliability signals, and reciprocity across repeated encounters supplies the arithmetic that makes manners economically serious. - [Generosity Works as a Long-Run Average](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-community-as-currency-and-playing-the-long-game-of-giving-workbook#Generosity%20Works%20as%20a%20Long-Run%20Average) _(Sep 29, 2015)_ — Generosity fails transaction-level audit and succeeds as a long-run average, which is why the response to an unreturned investment is to help someone new. - [Assuming the Best Has a Cost Structure](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-community-friendship-and-assuming-the-best-in-people-workbook#Assuming%20the%20Best%20Has%20a%20Cost%20Structure) _(undated)_ — Assuming the best is a prior with costs on both sides, and suspicion keeps better books because it never records what it prevented. - [Trust Economics and the Fiat Nature of Social Credit](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-funding-your-dreams-through-trust-and-human-capital-workbook#Trust%20Economics%20and%20the%20Fiat%20Nature%20of%20Social%20Credit) _(Nov 2, 2015)_ — Reputation is a fiat instrument backed by inventoriable qualities, worth what the people holding it still believe it is worth. - [Suspicion Manufactures the Outcome It Fears](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-healing-painful-relationships-through-honesty-and-safety-workbook#Suspicion%20Manufactures%20the%20Outcome%20It%20Fears) _(Oct 20, 2016)_ — Overcontrol produces the behavior it was installed to prevent, which is the self-fulfilling loop by which low-trust conditions reproduce themselves. - [Trust Is a Prediction Built From Repeated Evidence](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-intimacy-trust-and-the-human-foundations-of-business-workbook#Trust%20Is%20a%20Prediction%20Built%20From%20Repeated%20Evidence) _(Jun 9, 2016)_ — Trust is a prediction that updates only on conduct, and every partnership carries a behavioral price structure that sustains whatever it prices at zero. - [A Handshake Expresses Honor and a Document Preserves Memory](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-leadership-trust-and-the-architecture-of-partnership-workbook#A%20Handshake%20Expresses%20Honor%20and%20a%20Document%20Preserves%20Memory) _(Nov 30, 2015)_ — A handshake expresses honor and a document preserves memory; the two protect different things, and integrity compounds across a repeated game. - [The Contract You Negotiated Without Noticing](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-new-beginnings-and-the-relationship-contracts-that-protect-our-energy-workbook#The%20Contract%20You%20Negotiated%20Without%20Noticing) _(Dec 22, 2015)_ — Every relationship runs on terms stating what each party wants, will give, will tolerate, and will refuse, and a person who never articulates them has only allowed them to be inferred from behavior. - [Extending Trust That Has Not Yet Been Earned](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-resolve-trust-and-holding-space-through-change-workbook#Extending%20Trust%20That%20Has%20Not%20Yet%20Been%20Earned) _(Jan 3, 2019)_ — Extending trust to someone who has not yet earned it is the generative act in any trust system, since every reliable person was once unproven. - [Authenticity as the Lowest-Overhead Strategy Available](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-trust-economics-authentic-marketing-and-community-as-currency-workbook#Authenticity%20as%20the%20Lowest-Overhead%20Strategy%20Available) _(undated)_ — A constructed persona carries continuous maintenance cost while a true self carries none, which is why authenticity compounds over long horizons. ## Learning, resilience, and collective capability These lessons concern what becomes possible when effort leaves a durable trace, contradiction is retained instead of erased, difficulty returns useful structure, and the household itself is recognized as a training environment whose ordinary repetitions become someone else's normal. - [Taking Turns Being Strong](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-becoming-conductors-of-goodwill-and-taking-turns-being-strong-workbook#Taking%20Turns%20Being%20Strong) _(Sep 29, 2018)_ — A community supplies phase redundancy, carrying the spirit for whichever member has fallen out of tune. - [Emergence Requires Retention, Not Accumulation](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-emergence-compounding-effort-and-the-architecture-of-a-mission-workbook#Emergence%20Requires%20Retention,%20Not%20Accumulation) _(Aug 17, 2016)_ — Effort compounds only when today's output survives as tomorrow's usable input; repetition without retained structure returns the system to its starting point. - [Internal Contradiction Is the Source of Collective Capability](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-perseverance-emotional-diversity-and-collective-intelligence-workbook#Internal%20Contradiction%20Is%20the%20Source%20of%20Collective%20Capability) _(Jan 14, 2019)_ — A group gains search capacity from unresolved differences in emotion and judgment; complete agreement collapses the field to one available answer. - [Why an Adversarial Environment Produces Robust Capability](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-the-heros-journey-of-turning-suffering-into-meaning-workbook#Why%20an%20Adversarial%20Environment%20Produces%20Robust%20Capability) _(Sep 13, 2018)_ — Passion's history in suffering becomes an account of how costly investment produces attachment, field knowledge, and capability acquired where the easy version would have failed. - [The Household as a Training Environment](https://bryantmcgill.org/livestream-the-trojan-horse-in-the-living-room-and-the-power-of-the-royal-brag-workbook#The%20Household%20as%20a%20Training%20Environment) _(Nov 11, 2016)_ — Repeated exposure inside a home trains expectation, vocabulary, emotional rhythm, and conduct; every household teaches an attention practice whether or not it names a curriculum.
