I’m **not** an “AI expert” in the narrow 2023–2026 sense — the kind who fine-tunes transformers or publishes papers on the latest techniques. I’m a language guy, and that’s my real strength. I’ve been inside the actual cognitive machinery of intelligence systems since I was a kid — long before most of today’s AI labs even existed.
At its root, modern AI is language modeling at planetary scale. Embeddings, semantics, phonetic patterning, associative reference systems, knowledge graphs, and natural-language-to-code translation — every core capability that powers today’s large language models — traces directly back to the computational linguistics foundation I was already building in the 1990s. Projects like VersePerfect, Poet’s Muse, Living Language, my large-scale linguistic datasets, and early systems such as the U.S. Senate global media monitoring engine were all part of that work. The transformers and GPUs we see now are simply the latest brute-force layer on top of that deeper linguistic and cybernetic substrate.
Cybernetics has been the through-line for me for decades — Wiener’s feedback loops, human-machine symbiosis, emergent control systems. I didn’t read about it in a blog; I grew up studying it, worked on classified C4 systems that embodied it, built semantic engines that put it into practice, and have watched the entire stack scale into the behavioral mediation infrastructure we live with today.
AI has become a massive phenomenon in recent years, but it’s never really been new to me. I’ve been deeply immersed in this world for decades, often so buried in markdown, language systems, parsers, semantic engines, and linguistic structures that I missed much of the commercial hype and fanfare.
When I say “I’m a language guy,” I own that identity completely. It’s not a limitation at all — it’s the perspective that gives me a clear view of the long historical continuity in how intelligence systems actually develop and operate.
**Executive Summary**
Technologist with 35+ years in AI-adjacent systems, computational linguistics, and large-scale behavioral intelligence infrastructure. Early developer of semantic engines, knowledge graphs, and natural-language-to-code systems that prefigured modern LLMs by decades. Hands-on experience with classified command-and-control systems (U.S. Navy, SECRET clearance with TS/SCI provisional) and real-time global media intelligence platforms for the U.S. Senate. Former CTO with P&L responsibility; built media ecosystems reaching 1B+ people annually. Focused today on AI alignment, governance, and human-AI symbiosis frameworks.
**Key AI & Systems Achievements**
- 1990s Computational Linguistics Pioneer: Built semantic/phonetic structuring engines, associative reference systems, and pattern-based linguistic tools (McGill English Dictionary of Rhyme, VersePerfect, Poet’s Muse, Living Language) used by 500,000+ writers and researchers — early embedding-style and context-aware systems predating Word2Vec and modern creative AI assistants by 20+ years.
- Pre-Google Knowledge Graphs (2000s): Developed structured ontological systems from Wikipedia, Freebase, DBpedia, and federated sources; collaborated with WordNet (Princeton), FrameNet, BabelNet research teams.
- Natural Language-to-Code DSL (2015): Created interpreter translating high-level natural language intent into executable code across multiple languages — predating GitHub Copilot by nearly a decade.
- 400TB+ Linguistic Dataset: Curated global-scale databases supporting early AI training methodologies.
- Classified Compute Exposure: Worked on gigabit/parallel processing infrastructure at Draper Parallel Computing Center (near NSA data operations) and ZIPP fiber-optic network systems.
- 1993–1995 U.S. Senate Global Media Monitoring System: Senior Systems Architect for Intelenet — engineered one of the first real-time satellite + closed-caption indexing platforms monitoring 200+ international TV channels for legislative intelligence (precursor to modern OSINT/social listening).
- Academic & Industry Recognition: Collaborated with research teams at CMU, Stanford, Princeton, Harvard, Cambridge; cited in hundreds of books and publications on AI, linguistics, and cognitive science; WSJ front-page feature, Forbes, Inc., NASDAQ Lifetime Achievement.
